Sligo town features on a website which calls itself ‘the travellers guide to getting high’ and advises people where to source illegal drugs.

Each one of the 976 locations on the world-wide guide are given a smoking tolerance guide with one described as ‘very illegal’ and five ‘virtually illegal’ – with Sligo attaining a three rating in the review.

Potheads are advised that a number of licensed premises around the town “attract the people you’re looking for.”

The purpose of the site is to make it easier for people to buy pot in a strange town and to “find the best stuff, with the least effort”.

According to the editor of the website: “This unusual travel guide is almost like a restaurant review, showing where to go for the tastiest morsels, what you should expect to pay, how to order, and have a high old time doing it.”

It offers viewers recommendations on where to purchase marijuana in the town but advises people to “play it cool” and “be casual”.

The guide advises dope-smokers against dealing drugs in Sligo and states that smoking in public is “frowned upon” and is “not welcome”.

“Dealing is definitely out, in the eyes of Irish law. Public use will be frowned upon and is not welcome. Smoke well away from prying eyes in the company of friends and most important where you feel comfortable.”

When discussing drug legislation in Sligo the writer says: “In time to come it will be acceptable to have small amounts. But don’t be fooled in Ireland you can get a min (sic) 10 year jail term for any amount over €10,000 in your possession.

“Worse than that they rate the price in stone-age times and make 3fold (sic) so a bar costing €350-500 is bad news but great to smoke.”

Other information listed includes prices that pot smokers can expect to pay, and that hash is the most readily available in Sligo and “grass blows past occasionally but don’t count on it.”
