Bohs secure Super League status with Cartron win

May 15th, 2008

Sligo-Leitrim League Promotion/Relegation Play-Off

Calry Bohs 3
Cartron United 0

Calry Bohs ensured that they would remain in the Sligo-Leitrim Super League next season with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat of neighbours Cartron United at Hazelwood on Sunday morning.
Goals from Kevin Devaney, Conor Nally and Ronan Cox, added to a penalty save from Bohs keeper Stephen Heraghty, also means that Cartron will once again ply their trade in the Premier League next season.
Calry started brightly and deservedly opened the scoring on 12 minutes. Devaney swung a corner into the area, with centre-back Nally rising highest to power the ball to the Cartron net.
Calry continued to look the stronger side for the remainder of the half, but Cartron impressed defensively.
Nevertheless, Calry did get through for a second goal in the 38th minute.
Sligo-Leitrim U18 panellist Devaney was the architect and executioner. He skilfully worked his way past a couple of defenders and into the area, before firing low to the right corner to leave keeper Paul Scanlon with no chance.
This pushed the home side into a commanding 2-0 lead, although they lost defender Stephen Crossan to injury in the second-half.
They also had to rely on the reflexes of keeper Heraghty to keep their two-goal cushion intact, as he palmed away a 70th minute penalty.
Carton, for whom Ronan Foley, Ciaran Coyne and Benny O’Reilly impressed, battled hard to get back into the game, but Calry wrapped up the win on 85 minutes, when substitute Cox marked his return to action by firing home from close range after good work by Devaney once again.
