Drop in Litter League

Sligo dropped seven places in the litter league from the last litter survey held last year.
It is now in the 11th position in the country in the first round of the 2009 Irish Business against Litter tables.
Areas which came in praise included Quayside Car Park, Carbury National School and approach roads.
However the survey condemned the condition of Wine Street Car Park, and although IBAL revealed that the council cutbacks could be detrimental to the efforts of the town’s people to keep their town clean and tidy.
Meanwhile, according to An Taisce, Sligo did very well with eight out of ten sites which were awarded top litter grades.
